Stonehenge (Prehistoric Temple)

Date: 3100 BC - 1551BC
Style: Neolithic Architecture
The most famous of Neolithic movements, this is a
group of circular massive upright stones. Early
Britons built and rebuilt stone hangers over a time
span of 1000 years. It is an early edifice that
demonstrates the calendric use (astronomical clock
or calendar for predicting seasons) of architecture.

Indus Valley – House Plan
Location: Indus valley civilization (Mohenjodaro)
Date: 3000B.C - 2000B.C
Style: It is probably the earliest planned town in
the world. Its houses, single or two storied, were
made of brick walls and brick tiles on timber roof
with a courtyard plan. With no windows on the outer
wall and only a doorway from a side lane, these
houses were well protected from noise, odors, and
thieves.

Pyramid of Giza

These prestigious pyramids were religious in origin
and are the outcome of the belief in future life
(after death). Thus the pyramids were built with
immense labour and materials during the life of the
pharaohs to secure the preservation of the body
after death.

Hypostyle Hall
Location: Karnak Temple Complex, Egypt
Date: 1530 – 332 B.C
Style: Egyptian Architecture
The Great Hypostyle Hall of Karnak is one of the
most visited monuments of ancient Egypt. The hall
covers an area of 50,000 sq ft. The roof, now
fallen, was supported by 134 columns in 16 rows; the
2 middle rows are higher than the others (being
33 feet in circumference and 80 feet high).

Acropolis
Location: Athens, Greece
Date: 5th Century
Style: Greek Architecture
Acropolis at Athens is the supreme example of a
Greek sanctuary. Main building on the acropolis was
the revived large temple of Athena, the Parthenon.
It was rebuilt and improved many times.

Collosseum
Location: Rome
Date: 70 AD to 80 AD
Style: Roman Architecture
The Collosseum is best known for its multilevel
system of vaults made of concrete and its capacity
to hold 50,000 spectators. It is called the
Colosseum for the colossal statue of Nero that once
stood nearby, but its real name is the Flavian
Amphitheatre. It was used for staged battles between
lions and Christians, among other spectacles.
